‘In a trial, statements are personal and non-transferable. No one can make a statement for someone else’
This opinion was expressed by Carlos Melo Alves on CNN Portugal's Fim de Tarde news programme, where he analysed the request by two lawyers in the BES mega-case, asking for a curator to be appointed to represent Ricardo Salgado.
The lawyer says that even in the case of a four-year-old child, it has to be the child who makes the statement and cannot be represented by someone else.
