Melo Alves present at the 2nd Portuguese Criminal Law Forum

The Second Forum of Portuguese Criminal Law, organised by Fórum Penal, took place on 15 and 16 November in Peniche and had the participation of Melo Alves partners.

Tiago Melo Alves was a speaker on the panel ‘The new challenges of social networks’ alongside Manuel Magalhães e Silva, a lawyer and member of Fórum Penal's Advisory Board.

Bruno Melo Alves, as a board member of Fórum Penal, was part of the organising committee, while Carlos Melo Alves, a member of Fórum Penal's Advisory Board, attended the Forum's proceedings from the audience.

 

During the two-day event, the following topics were analysed:

  • Electronic correspondence and the recent case law of the Constitutional Court
  • Cryptocurrencies and criminal investigation
  • The procedural dimension of confiscation without conviction and of third party assets
  • The Portuguese prison system in the light of the Petrescu case
  • The new challenges of social networks

It should also be noted that the event was opened by Fernanda de Almeida Pinheiro, President of the Portuguese Bar Association, and Cláudia Amorim, President of the Board of Fórum Penal.

The event was closed by Nuno Brandão, Lawyer and Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Law of the University of Coimbra and Chairman of the General Assembly of Fórum Penal, and Germano Marques da Silva, Lawyer and Emeritus Professor at the Faculty of Law of the Portuguese Catholic University and Coordinator of Fórum Penal's Advisory Board.
