Lawyer Rui Andrade joins Melo Alves as a partner in the areas of Labour Law, Litigation and Dispute Resolution.
A lawyer with vast experience in litigation, arbitration and labour matters in African countries such as Angola, Mozambique, East Timor, Equatorial Guinea, São Tomé and Príncipe, Guinea-Bissau and Cape Verde, Rui Andrade has represented and advised major national and international companies (including companies in the oil sector), which adds value to Melo Alves' Angola Desk.

Rui Andrade joins from VdA as a partner in the Labour and Litigation & Arbitration practices. He was also a partner at Miranda Correia Amendoeira & Associados (2002 - 2014) and at Nabais, Pérez, Galamba, Sternberg & Associados (1995 - 1999). Between 2000 and 2002, he served in the government as Chief of Staff to the Secretary of State for Consumer Protection.
He has a law degree from the Faculty of Law of the University of Lisbon and a postgraduate degree in Community Consumer Law from the Faculty of Law of the Catholic University of Louvaine, Belgium. He taught Labour Law at the School of Business and Education of the Catholic University of Lisbon. He is the author of the book "A Educação dos Consumidores - Direitos e Deveres" (Consumer Education - Rights and Duties) and the insurance manual "Vocabulário de Seguros" (Insurance Vocabulary). As Head of the Office of the Secretary of State for Consumer Policy, he authored and co-authored several laws, including the Law on Minimum Banking Services and the Law on Special Sales.
